AEW announced a monumental television deal, but money can’t buy cool. And even in the midst of its biggest financial success, AEW is about as trendy as a Myspace blog post.

Similar to how New York billionaire Donald Trump managed to get all those hillbillies in the south to think he’s one of them, AEW incels are celebrating Message Board Billionaire Tony Khan like he’s going to spend his TV money on their TV dinners.

AEW was in the red zone back in July. Then, two months later, in September they were on the one-yard line. Then the TV deal went to a booth review, and the ruling on the field stands. AEW finally got into the endzone on a touchdown drive that lasted over three months. Tony Khan’s offense is so slow it’s no wonder he owns the the Jaguars, more on that soon.

One of my favorite parts of this whole TV Deal saga is Dave Meltzer staking what’s left of his reputation to AEW limping its way to a TV Deal. Even after the whole internal memo debacle, Dave posted to his incel message board like “AEW is gonna get a great TV Deal, you’ll see!” Yeah, but what does that have to do with Dave Meltzer being pro wrestlings version of infowars? Slingblade Dave has one job—to report the news—and he’s spent 2024 screwing up that job by getting more stories wrong than public schools that ban the 1619 project. No, David, you were not ahead of the curve by predicting that AEW was going to get more money from a desperate WBD. Anybody could have told you that!

Between you and me, I recorded this video about AEW’s TV Deal months ago, which will explain the kinda dated Bryan Danielson references you’re about to hear. Nobody is surprised AEW got paid by WBD. And watching Dave Meltzer celebrate AEW’s TV Deal like he had anything to do with it, is like watching the backup Long-snapper for the Jaguars talking trash after winning a division title.

AEW defied the odds by signing a new TV Deal, but despite securing that bag, AEW’s ratings and live attendance are on the downswing. And if you watch the product you can see why.

Tony Khan is doubling down on the aging whites with Bryan Danielson beating the younger, cooler Swerve as part of a storyline that scared off the 18-34 demo. Now, one of Bryan’s many opps is Jon Moxley and his skinhead faction. I swear to God, I’m not making this up I’m not that good. Well, I am, but I’m not making this up! Don’t shoot the messenger, but Mox saw Romper Stomper—a movie about white supremacists antiheros— and got inspired.

THIS IS NOT YOUR COMPANY ANYMORE

OK Cracker, let’s cool it on the insurrection talk. Tony Khan has zero authority, so his top stars get to do whatever they want. Even if that means Dean Klanbrose shaving his head, reuniting with Ku Klux Klaudio and paying homage to skinhead culture. This is the type of angle that should air in a Honky Horror Picture Show, which actually is what AEW Dynawhite has always been, so why do I even bother. Apparently, Mox is so committed to the bit, he changed the spelling of his own name to M-O-American History X.

Toni Storm and Mariah May used to have the hottest feud in the company, but instead of building up a purpose for Mariah May’s heel turn, it just happened out of thin air, the storyline peaked and now both Toni and Mariah are less over. Mariah is a talented world champion with all the tools to be a star, but nobody seems to care. Kinda like AEW. MJF was trying to be Donald Trump and Hulk Hogan, which is cool for a heel, but he’s doing it during an election year where I just seen promos from the real-life Donald Trump and Hulk Hogan.

AEW is failing upwards, get it how you live. AEW doing record-low ratings and still getting a TV rights increase is like David Zaslav getting to keep his job—for now—despite blowing up the Cartoon Network and tanking WBD’s stock every quarter.
