The Advent is Cisco Ferreira – a Portuguese-born, London-based artist whose name has been synonymous with hard-edged, uncompromising techno since the early 1990s. Ferreira cut his teeth at Jack Trax Records, where he witnessed first-hand the working methods of Derrick May and Marshall Jefferson, and began recording under his own name in 1993. Early releases on Internal Records and FFRR introduced him to a broader audience, before Tresor and International Deejay Gigolo sealed his reputation as one of techno’s most durable and singular voices. More recent work has appeared on MB Elektronics and Klockworks.
His sets sit at the harder end of the spectrum – driving, industrial, and relentless, but with the kind of musicality that only comes from three decades of obsessive practice. Ferreira also performs as G Flame, an alias dedicated to electro, demonstrating a range few artists in his generation can match. Whether playing classic electro or full-bore techno, there is a physicality to his performances that cuts straight to the point. Thirty-plus years in and he still sounds like he has something to prove.
