Private training with Coach April Team Rhythm Serving Piper, Izzy, Ari, Aaron from Zone1 part 2

High School

The serve is an indispensable skill for all levels of players…including high school, college, National team and professional players.

It presents the first opportunity for a team to score a point against their opponents, and it is the only skill out of the six basic skills that can be performed individually.

From the jump float serve, which focuses on accuracy and unpredictability, to the jump topspin serve, designed to generate pace and power, there are different variations to learn.

By understanding the mechanics and practicing various serving techniques, you can become a point-scoring ace-making fearless server with the ability to create scoring opportunities for your team.

In this video my group of high players, are working on their jump float serve .. under some pressure which I’m applying by having them keep their usual pre-serve prep routine to a minimum.
With very few bounces….they must get set up and go….on command one after the other, ideally in rhythm while using their peripheral vision to see when their partner is taking off.

Players (Piper, Izzy, Ari and Aaron) are….
-Working on everyone using the same “high elbow” arm swing technique emphasizing a flat hand contact with the top third of the open palm contacting the middle panels of the ball, while watching the hand contact the ball
-Working on attacking the last two steps of their serve approach and contacting the ball at the highest part of the jump before coming down
-Working on staying calm and accurate under pressure because if one partner misses their serve, that team of two plus the whole group are penalized a point so working
*individually, and
*as a partner and
*as a team
-in order to understand how earning or losing ONE point effects the whole group.
