I’m a semi-pro hooper in the ABA, on the grind to go pro or overseas
I started my athletic journey as a hockey player at 9, switching to goalie at 10, which led to the next ten years of my life, being all about hockey. I was an all state goalie, 4 year varsity starter, and went on to be a semi-pro champion and goalie of the year in my 2 year semi-pro career.
While playing hockey, I had a teammate who started playing at 18, went semi-pro at 21, and pro at 23. That made me wonder if I could do the same with other sports. The more I thought about it, the more it seemed in line with my career path, of being a strength and conditioning coach and training athletes. The more sports I played, and better I understood them, the more I could assist those athletes in growing in the gym.
So I decided to give it a shot. As of January 2024, I began training for volleyball, basketball, baseball, football, and soccer. All in the hopes of going semi-pro. I loved every sport I played, but I fell in love with hooping. By June of the same year, I had retired from hockey, and decided that this hoop shit was going to be my life.
With just 9 months of experience, I attended my first ABA tryout, and made the West Michigan Lakehawks, which is where I’m currently playing. I love this hoop shit, and have big dreams and goals. I’m taking it one day at a time however, and falling in love with the process every day.
