Detroit Lions news and Detroit Lions rumors
The Detroit Lions have traded running back D’Andre Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles, per Ian Rapoport.
Per Rapoport, the Lions have received a 2025 fourth-round pick and a seventh-round pick this year.
UPDATE: Adam Schefter has fuller terms.
Lions get:
2025 fourth-round pick
2023 seventh-round pick (219 overall)
Eagles get:
RB D’Andre Swift
2023 seventh-round pick (249 overall)
Martin is a 6’5”, 330-pound defensive tackle hailing from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Martin played his first three seasons of college football at the University of North Alabama, where he totaled 81 tackles with nine tackles for loss and two sacks. In two years at WKU, he totaled 62 tackles with six for a loss and four sacks.
Martin was an honorable mention performer in C-USA this year and participated in the 2023 East-West Shrine Bowl.
A solid run stopper and gap plugger, Martin is also a decent pass rusher for his size. He wasn’t listed as one of the top prospects for his position in this class, but Martin joins a Lions team where he has potential to see playing time relatively early.
With the 219th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions have selected wide receiver Antoine Green out of North Carolina.
Green is an X-receiver, standing 6-foot-2, 199 pounds. He was a deep threat for the Tar Heels, hauling in 1,710 yards and 15 touchdowns in 24 starts in college—for a whopping 19.0 yards per catch. He also bring plenty of speed, running a 4.47 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
The Detroit Lions have selected William & Mary offensive lineman Colby Sorsdal with the 152nd overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. After a lengthy wait, the Lions have made their first pick of Day 3.
My grade: B
When you get into Day 3 of the NFL Draft, it’s less about finding starters and more about adding depth short-term and developmental pieces long-term. Sorsdal checks both of those boxes. Though purely a right tackle in college, his future in the NFL might be at guard. Jonah Jackson is firmly entrenched at left guard, while the right guard spot is up for grabs between Halapoulivaati Vaitai and Graham Glasgow. The loser of that battle would be the top reserve, with the likes of Logan Stenberg, Kayode Awosika, and Darrin Paulo fighting for a depth spot.
Sorsdal enters that mix and has a good chance to stick around. For one, Vaitai and Glasgow have one year on their respective deals, so a long-term need is there. If he can develop into a starting-caliber guard, the Lions would have suddenly solidified their already talented offensive line. Considering that none of Stenberg, Awosika, or Paulo are sure-things, Sorsdal is valuable purely as depth as well.
