Gotta chance to try out VTEC Academy’s VSS to CSS conversion method on a friends K20Z3 swapped EK civic, with absolute success!
The major key in all this is having a V4 Kpro installed by Hondata as they perform the two PCB mods related to the speed sensor. Some authorized Kpro installers might not do said pcb mods thus rendering this conversion impossible and will fail to work when attempting, which then leads to needing to go with K-tuned’s VSS All-In-One converter instead (video on that later).
I forgot to show the VSS to CSS repining and plug conversion that’s required. We used an ebay/amazon bought VSS to CSS adapter harness for about $10-13, its perfect if you don’t want to deal with repining and modifying the VSS connector to work with the CSS.
Detailed tutorial here:
Quick run down:
1. KPRO v4 required. Visually check the two speed sensor mods have been made at RM760 & QM760 as shown in video.
2. VSS to CSS rewiring required (or buy a VSS to CSS adapter harness ebay/amazon/etc)
3. Need to make a wire connection from ECU connector B11 (an empty pin slot) to the C101-pin3 connector (engine harness side). You must depin the existing wire at C101-pin3 and tape it back/leave dormant and then pin the new wire from B11 in its place. If you want to do this cleanly, you’ll need to buy new pins online somewhere or head to the junkyard and snip a full K-series A/B/or D donor ecu plug w/about 2-3″ of wire lead (pro tip: an 01-05 Civic ecu plug will work too, has the same type of ECU plugs). Also grab a donor C101 engine harness connector w/2-3″ of wiring lead as well. Build your wire length and solder or butt each pinned end accordingly.
4. Go into KPRO (Kmanager) software, download your existing map, go to the MISC tab and set the speed sensor setting to Countershaft Driven Speed Sensor. UPLOAD and go for a test drive. See if your speedometer behaves like normal and doesn’t spaz out and then punch it and see if VTEC cracks. Thats it.
