Isaiah 53:5-7
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
How difficult it must have been for His loyal followers to really acknowledge that Jesus willingly suffered these mistreatments – like a Lamb to the slaughter – also for the benefit of those who yet had followed Him so faithfully.
Let us, who – just like the people in Jesus’ days – have gone astray like sheep and have turned to our own ways, let us be willing to be led again by the eternal faithful Shepherd. For, in His indescribable love, this Shepherd sacrificed His life by dying on the cross of Golgotha, bringing salvation to us from all our sins, so that we might live with God again, full of His peace!
