Jeff Demps was renowned for his world-class, Olympic-level speed as a running back (RB) for the Florida Gators (2008–2011).
Key Speed Metrics
40-yard dash: Often listed around 4.24–4.30 seconds (unofficial/hand-timed or pro-day equivalent estimates). Some Gators all-time lists place him at 4.30, while reports around the 2011–2012 NFL Draft window cited 4.24–4.26. This would have been among the fastest ever at the NFL Combine if he had run it officially.
100 meters (track): Personal best of 10.01 seconds (set in 2008 as a high school senior at the U.S. Olympic Trials, tying the world junior record). He also ran a 9.96 in college (2010 NCAA Outdoor champion in the 100m) and had strong relay performances, including anchoring Florida’s 4x100m teams.406073
He was frequently called one of the fastest players in college football during his Gators tenure, blending elite sprinting ability with football vision and burst. His track background (multiple NCAA titles in sprints and relays) translated to game-breaking long runs on the field.
Context from His Gators Career
Demps played in Urban Meyer’s high-powered offenses and was a key contributor on the 2008 national championship team as a freshman. He rushed for over 2,400 career yards with strong per-carry averages (often 6+ YPC), thanks largely to his acceleration and top-end speed that let him outrun angles and defenses in space. Teammates and opponents (including coaches like Nick Saban) praised his ridiculous velocity.
In short, during his time with the Florida Gators, Demps brought legitimate track-star speed (sub-10.1 100m range and sub-4.3 40 estimates) to the RB position, making him a constant big-play threat. He later pursued track more seriously, including Olympic relay involvement in 2012.
